The Secret To Losing Weight

January 26th, 2010

I am so grateful that you’re taking steps to take control of your life. You will be amazed when we work together how much you’ll uncover about yourself. You’ll understand how your thoughts have contributed to your being overweight and you will take daily steps to put together a new plan of action for yourself. I imagine that you are tired of living like this and want some new, something better for yourself. I am here to help you and I know you can do it!

As an integrative body therapist, I work with energy and thought processes. With this in mind, we’re going to begin this lesson with a discussion on energy and how you attract excess weight.

Everything is made up of energy. The couch you’re sitting on, the table, even money is made up of energy. Our bodies are nothing but pure energy. Since everything is made up of energy, these things are affected by the Natural Laws of the Universe. These Laws are designed to manifest whatever we put our thoughts on. In simple terms, whatever you put your mind on, is what you’re going to get.

We’re going to look at one of the Natural Laws-the Law of Attraction. How does this apply to being overweight? When you hold negative thoughts in your body, symptoms appear based on those thoughts. In your case, you hold excess weight. You may be experiencing other symptoms as well, but your main focus right now is your weight. You hold negative thoughts in your body and this attracts excess weight. According to Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life, outlines weight issues in her book and anger is the driving force underneath the weight. It can be anything from anger at being denied love, anger at the parents or anger at one specific parent-often the father. In my case, I was angry at both parents, but more so my father.

Now, I’ll be giving you homework assignments because I like this to be interactive and have you contribute as well. So here’s your first homework assignment. It’s very simple. Identify who you’re angry with? You can include yourself. Once you’ve done this then describe why you’re angry with the person(s) you’ve identified and be specific.

We’ll be peeling back layers and these are simple steps to uncovering some layers. I will then address how you can release this anger so you can experience pure joy and love. In your case, especially of your body.

You are great just the way God intended you to be! You just need to peel back a few layers to reveal the wholeness that is already there. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey.

Easy Tips to Losing Weight in The New Year

January 20th, 2010

My friend asked me something startling last week. It was over lunch. Between bites of a cobb salad (minus the cheese, bacon and blue cheese… I wonder what Larry David would have to say about that), my friend asked me rather bluntly “You know, I’ve been trying to lose weight for six months now. Last week I even found myself reading an article on how to mix HCG, so tell me: how do you keep so thin?” I swear to you this is not me showing off. This completely shocked me because I don’t consider myself that thin. I’m not one of those people who likes to go “God, I’m so fat, look at me” just to get attention, but I also don’t consider myself thin. I’ve had many a weekends looking in the mirror going “god, I gotta lose some pounds”. I’m not fat or anything, I just don’t view myself as “thin”.

This got me to thinking though, if my friend considers me “thin”, then I must be doing something right on the weight front. I’m not one of those people who are like “watch what you eat, diet, exercise, repeat”. I’ve never really followed any kind of formula. I guess I’m more of a “just don’t do anything crazy” type of dieter.

Ok, let me explain my theory: Say you’re going to a fast food restaurant. The key is to not go crazy. You don’t have to get the salad with no dressing, if you want a hamburger just get the smallest hamburger on there. Most fast food places are most famous for their most basic burger, so why not try that? You can have a few fries, but only a few. Get a small or share with someone else. Also, as painful as it is, look at the nutrition facts, this way you can find ways to cut a few calories out here and there (my personal trick: cut out mayonnaise or other thick type sauces, they don’t usually bring much flavor to the game anyway).

The old adage is true, it’s all about moderation. Being full is a disgusting feeling anyway, so why would you push yourself past that point just because something tastes good? Why have four pieces of pizza and feel sick when you can have two and full satisfied. When it comes to exercise, well, I wish I did it more. When I do do it though, I try to keep it enjoyable by listening to good music. If you can pick the right pick of songs your workout routines feel much, much shorter.

These are just a few ideas. It’s not foolproof and frankly, you probably know more than you think. We all have tricks; (like knowing how to mix HCG) we just don’t think about them that often.

Author Kimberly Green found some excellent information online @ HCGSupplies.com when looking for details on how to mix HCG

Winning The Losing Weight Game

January 2nd, 2010

Are you more or less constantly thinking about your weight, or whether you’re eating or not eating?
Do you find that at times when you start eating that you just can’t stop yourself? And then when your clothes don’t fit do you decide to resolve that by eating more?

Often as a consequence of this common behaviour is that you will feel bad about yourself and imagine that everyone is thinking how big you are, thus increasing your anxiety about your eating and image, so that you eat more to comfort yourself.

You might not believe it yet there are steps you can take to get you out this self-destructive cycle and turn around the negative feelings that you experience.

When we are in these ‘mind-traps’ we are habitually repeating thought patterns and acting on them without questioning where they come from and what they do for us.

A simple question such as: ‘What will that do for me?’ can often be the beginning of understanding ourselves better and our behaviour. Approaching the problem in this way can be the first step towards doing things differently.

It works like this: a bad experience gives you the urge to go to the biscuit tin and eat as many biscuits as you can. But this time, instead of binging on biscuits, as yourself: ‘What will that do for me?’

If the answer is something like ‘It gives me a treat,’ ask yourself: ‘And if I have this treat, what does that do for me?; Again, wait for your answer, it may be something like, ‘If I have this treat then I will feel appreciated.’ If this is your response carry on and ask yourself: ‘If I get to feel appreciated, what does that do for me?’ Listen for an answer and keep asking yourself the same question, until you can go no further with your responses. What you’re looking for is the higher motivation behind the behaviour ‘eating too many biscuits’. By doing this on a regular basis you will get in touch with what you really want and take your first step to controlling the food cravings.

I worked with a client who was unhappy with her weight and eating. Her name was Mary, a wife and working mother of two young boys. We did this exercise and she realised that she wanted to feel comforted.

When we looked at other aspects of her life it became clear that she never put herself first in terms of what she wanted and one way or another she now felt unappreciated and lacking.

Mary also realised that rarely gave her self permission to have ‘me time’ to do things like soak in a luxurious bath, or go out with friends, or watch what she wanted on TV, These all may seem like small trivial things, but added together they became the source of her feelings of being invisible, not appreciated and generally unloved.

Mary worked on creating ways that she could reward, comfort and appreciate herself that didn’t have to mean eating. Very soon she became very clear about her goals and how to achieve them. People around her noticed a change and responded by being more receptive and positive towards her. As a result, she easily shed weight, looked and was much happier, and forgot all about eating for comfort. Winning The Losing Weight Game

Losing Weight: The Power of Food Journaling

December 4th, 2009

So many of us say we want to lose weight or eat healthier, but frequently we don’t realize what we’re actually eating. We understand that a diet of fried food is bad, or that we need to limit our deserts, but we may not appreciate how much of these foods we are managing to sneak into our diets. Fortunately, there is a very simple tool called a food journal that can help us take measure of our eating habits. From there we can learn to manage what we eat.

What is it?

A food journal is a daily record of all the foods you eat – every meal, snack, or drink consumed throughout the day is written down to provide a comprehensive record. The level of detail can vary. Some journals include only the items in each meal. The best ones record at least some basic nutritional information, which can include portions, number of calories, or the levels of fat and cholesterol. To make it fun, some people even include personal reviews of the food they eat.

What does writing have to do with dieting?

Of course, the act of writing won’t burn enough calories to help you lose that weight. The real benefit of the journal is to give you a comprehensive list. If you diligently record your meals for seven days, you can examine the levels of calories and fat you’ve taken in and begin to understand your own eating behaviors. The longer you journal, the more information you gain about yourself. This information allows you to make informed choices about your intake and can lead you to a level of awareness that will help you make better decisions.

So how do I get started?

First, you need to get the journal set up. Keep in mind that the journal doesn’t have to be a fancy leather-bound book. You can easily set up a document on your computer or use a simple spiral bound notepad available at any drugstore. There are even iPhone apps available (like ‘Lose It’) that can make recording meals easy. Pick the method you’re most comfortable with.

Next, you will need to identify your system. Simply recording the meals you eat is a start, but the more information you enter the better. Pick information types (called ‘metrics’) that fit with your goals. If you want to lose weight, you will probably need to record calories consumed. If you’re concerned about your heart, then cholesterol, salts and certain fats will be your focus.

Finally, when you start journaling, make sure to keep it simple. Begin by recording the meals and portions you eat for a full week. At the end of the week, go back and fill in the metrics for each day and then your totals for the week. These totals will give you a ‘big picture’ snapshot that you can use to measure your overall goals. The day-to-day entries will allow you to break down any needed changes into manageable pieces.

What does it mean?

You’ll probably be surprised by what you find but don’t get discouraged. Nearly everyone gets a shock when they see just what their real diets look like. Keep with it. The longer you record the information, the better and more complete the picture will become.

If you’re on a 2,000-calorie a day diet, the week should be about 14,000 calories. If you went up to 18,000, you will know that somehow you ate an extra two days’ worth of food during the week. This is good information that will not only help to identify a problem, but also the degree of the problem. In this example, if you can eliminate just 300 calories per day, you will have achieved your goal.

Since you’ll be making a complete record of each meal, and noting the values associated with the meal, you will be able to see where you can ‘win back’ some of your meals. Maybe it will be from omitting a daily snack here and there or reducing the size of a meal by a small amount. Either way, you have the information you need to begin taking steps to modify your eating behavior. This applies to any metric you choose – keep a good record, tally up the numbers, and you will see the patterns that you need to change.

Take Control

The biggest advantage of food journaling is that it really is easy to do. It can take some practice but the time commitment is minimal. It takes less than a minute to write down that you had a roast beef sandwich, a bag of chips, and a soda for lunch. If you only take another two minutes to research the nutritional information in that meal and write it down, you’ve committed only three minutes. For as little as one hour per week you can account for every meal. It’s a small step that you can easily fit into your existing routine. Once it becomes habit, you will have information that isn’t just generalized or abstracted, but very specific to your personal needs. And you can take control of your eating and your health.
