Knowledge is the key to preventing carbon monoxide poisoning.  In most cases of accidental poisoning, victims don’t realise that CO was being produced or building up in the air they were breathing. Everyone needs to know about the dangers of CO and how to protect themselves from this silent killer. Older people, those with heart, lung problems, pregnant mothers, unborn babies, and young children are all particularly vulnerable to CO dangers.

CO poisoning needs to be taken more seriously by the general public, health care services (including testing at post-mortems) and industry. CO-awareness should be included as a National Curriculum key life skill to avoid deaths in young people.

CO-Awareness’s Four essential steps to improving the public’s CO poisoning awareness

1) Put it in the school curriculum. Knowledgeable children are far more able to make adults do things than any other sector of society.   By teaching children about the dangers of the modern world we increase their potential to be safe and enable them to carry home the message to their families and friends.

2) Improve information and equipment to the medical profession. Emergency services and Accident & Emergency Department staff all acknowledge the benefits of non invasive diagnostic equipment and up to date information for rapid on site diagnosis.  Aggressive multi-system presentation for which CO poisoning is the only tenable unifying diagnosis* can be confirmed immediately by the use of breath analysis or Pulse CO Oximetry.

3) Create an information and advice resource for Solicitors and victims. Many victims fail to obtain proof of their

condition or compensation for poisoning as they cannot afford to employ expensive legal and expert witness staff to collect evidence and fight the case.

4) Ensure that all installation and servicing is carried out by competent operatives. Only one fuel (gas) requires the installer/service operative to prove competence to work safely and proper training has been replaced by modular academically based short courses.  This means that many installer/service operatives in all three fuels lack the experience to recognise potential problem areas.   All fitters and servicing personel must know what they are doing and have the incentives to do the work properly.

CO-Awareness is calling for medical practitioners and others across a range of disciplines to raise awareness and provide ongoing help and support to victims. Groups to be targeted include Housing Associations, landlord’s, Council’s, Builders, Architects, Registered Engineers, PCT’s, Hospitals, Paramedic’s, GP’s, Nurses, Health Visitors, Emergency Services, and schools services to educate young people about the dangers of Carbon Monoxide.

Of course, most people will say that they really want to be healthy, but what are you willing to DO to be healthy? And what are you willing to NOT DO to be healthy? In other words, what is more important to you than being healthy?

Is more important to:

? Eat fast food, or packaged, frozen and processed food, than take the time to cook healthy meals with fresh, organic healthy ingredients?

? Spend money on clothes and toys and other “stuff” than on fresh, organic, healthy food?

? Go along with what others say about what creates health rather than take the time to do your own learning?

? Sleep in, watch TV, play video games, gamble, work, stay on the phone, constantly text, or do other addictive activities rather than get exercise?

? Take drugs for anxiety, depression or insomnia rather than learn how to take responsibility for your feelings?

? Turn to substance addictions rather than take responsibility for your feelings? Continue to act out addictively with alcohol, cigarettes, sugar, caffeine, or drugs rather than learn to take loving care of yourself?

? Neglect your spiritual practice rather than take the time to create inner peace?

? Exercise
? State of mind

All three are equally important and affect each other. If you are judging yourself and ignoring your own feelings, then your self-abandonment will be creating stress in your body. When we go into stress, the body goes into fight or flight, which means that the blood leaves the brain and organs and goes into the arms and legs for fighting or fleeing. When this happens often, the immune system is compromised, leaving you open for illness. In addition, the stress may lead you to act out addictive in an effort to relieve it, further fostering poor health. Exercise not only helps your state of mind, it helps your body function well. Poor food affects your state of mind and your energy, making it more difficult to exercise and create inner peace.

Today, ask yourself, “How important is my health to me?” Then be honest with yourself. If you are not willing to take loving care of yourself in all three areas, then you need to accept that your health is not that important to you.

Is it really so diifficult to change lifestyle?

The contemporary lifestyle is generally not conducive to healthy living. People drink too much, eat too much, and some even smoke too much. In addition, most live in dailly stress with sleep deprivation. Furthermore, many rely on caffeines and medications to keep them alert and functional. The good news is that many are aware of the need to change lifestyle for the better. The bad news is that it is difficult to change lifestyle: bad habits are easy to form, but difficult to eradicate.

But is it really so difficult to change lifestyle?

It is more than just willpower: you require strategies to change lifestyle.

You need not only to resolve to make a change in your diet and lifestyle, but also to re-commit yourself on a regular basis with determination and perseverance. Taking the first step is diffcult, but none the less essential. The ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.” So, take your first step, and do it NOW, not later. Procrastination is the enemy of change.

Do not allow yourself to slack. A lifelong commitment to change means lifelong healthy living.

Be positive, rather than be anxious or fearful. Positive reinforcement is more conducive to changing a lifelong habit than negative emotions of anxiety and fear. Break yourself of bad food habits for healthy living. Reward yourself with a healthy alternative, such as an activity (a facial, a massage, a symphony or an opera), instead of a food item. Rewarding yourself with food usually perpetuates the sin of food craving.

Always set reasonable and achievable goals for changing a behaviour or life pattern. Without goals, there will only be excuses and procrastination.

Give yourself positive personal affirmations and personal messages to increase self-esteem to change lifestyle. Always, visualize your success. Seeing is believing. Visual images may make you see your own future success in your mind’s eye.

Change lifestyle gradually. Tackle just one major change at a time. Do not attempt to change everything overnight: this is often a recipe for failure. Take one step at a time, and small steps at that.

Expect to slip from time to time. Relapse is only natural. It is human nature to err. Consider it a learning experience; recharge yourself immediately and move on. Do not look back; otherwise, you may experience guilt and inadequacy.

Get support from family and friends. Do not strive to fight against all odds all by yourself. Sharing your struggle to change lifestyle is the key to success. Keep a daily journal to record all your health and weight problems, and note how they may be connected to your lifestyle.

Observe your emotional problems, if you have any, and see how they may be related to your social life or diet.

If you think you need to change lifestyle, maybe you should. It is never too late to change for the better. It is your life ahead of you. Of course, on the other hand, if you don’t think you need to make any change to your current lifestyle, it is your perception and your choice too.

Neutropenia – Learn What It Is, Be A Part Of The Cure

Neutropenia is a disorder of the circulatory system. It occurs when someone’s nuetrophil granulocyte count becomes inordinately low. It is usually agreed that there are four classifications of neutropenia. This is done by measuring what is called the “absolute neutropenia count,” or ANC. If a microliter of blood contains less than two thousand counts, it is termed general neutropenia. Mild neutropenia occurs when the ANC count drops below the fifteen hundred level, and yet is above the one thousand count mark. The second type of the disease is the cyclical variety. It occurs in phases, usually once every three weeks. It lasts from three to six days per occurrence.
