The Importance Having a Good Medical Record

January 26th, 2010

Keeping your own records of any medical care that you and your immediate family have received is the only way to be sure that your insurance and bills are free from mistakes. It may seem unimportant now, but later in life when you try to get life insurance or get treatment that is appropriate for you, the importance will be in the spotlight. Everything from your allergies to your payment records with medical facilities can hurt you if they are wrong in your report. You could be given improper treatment or even denied treatment at all. By keeping your own records, you can dispute anything that is false.

Would you believe that you could be denied a job because of something erroneous on your medical records? It is true; if you are reported to have a disability, whether it is true or not, you could be turned down. You would be labeled as a risk, especially if the company offers insurance; they would know that you are going to cost more money to employ. The same goes for applying for health insurance where your medical records show that you would require prescription drugs, doctor visits, and increased chance of emergencies. It is quite the ordeal if you do in fact have a disability, but imaging if you did not have one at all-you would be turned down for insurance, while also being completely ineligible for disability financial help.

An example of a mistake that could be made on your record would be a diagnosis error. Perhaps you request that your doctor check a suspicious lump in your breast. On the first visit he may suspect that it is cancer. Most people will get a second opinion or go for a more thorough conclusive examination. If the second doctor decides that it is only a cyst and has it removed, your personal records would show that you are cancer-free. However, if this visit was documented incorrectly, or not at all, you may have trouble getting insured and not know why. If you had a record of the second visit that found the cyst, this situation would be easily disputed and your record would be accurate.

Human error is simply a part of life, even on medical documents. It is important to always keep your own records so that insurance companies get accurate information about you and your health condition. If you are being turned down for insurance and do not know why, you are best advised to be sure that you are not being misrepresented within your medical records. This problem can be cleared up quickly and easily if you are responsible enough to keep your own personal records.

What Are The good Fats And What Are The Bad Fats?

January 18th, 2010

Many people think that all fat is bad. I don’t blame them for the misconception about fat because there is a lot of publicity about the negative effects of fat on health. The weight loss industry is one of the culprits in concentrating mostly on the negative impact of fat and little is said about the positive effects of fat. In this article I will cover both the positive impact and negative effects of fat.

Think about it. Everyone has fat on them, however there is a certain amount of safe fat, and then there is excess fat.  We need a certain percentage of fat to be healthy. Fat droplets inside most of our body’s cells regulate excess proteins in our bodies. A certain amount of fat is necessary for preserving the function of cells.”

“Fat droplets are microscopical fat spots present in almost all the cells in the body, and they play the role of warehouses or storage depots for a certain type of protein used by molecules to bind DNA. Besides storing the particular histone proteins needed by cells to bind and organize DNA in the nucleus, the fat droplets also serve as deposits for other proteins found in excessive amounts within our bodies. If these proteins were not gathered and stored somewhere in the body, they would become harmful for our health.”

Saturated Fats

The sources for these types of fats are mainly animals: butter, bacon, chicken skin, T-bone, etc. This is bad fat that causes high cholesterol and contributes to heart disease.

Trans-fatty acids

These type of fats are created by adding hydrogen to liquid fats to make them semi-solid and are used in some margarines and snack foods. They increase your risk of heart disease and are thought to be associated with obesity, cancer and diabetes.

Polyunsaturated Fats

Fish, sunflower and soya bean are some of the sources of polyunsaturated fats. These are good fats because they lower your chances of getting a heart disease. But not all polyunsaturated fats are equally good for you. For instance omega-6 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats and better than saturated fats but are potentially inflammatory, but Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are good in preventing heart disease. Though sunflower oil, is better for you than saturated fats, it is still a potential health hazard, especially in large quantities.

Monounsaturated Fats

These types of fats are found in nuts, avocado, olives, olive oil, peanut oil and canola. Olive oil or canola are better for cooking than polyunsaturated fats like sunflower oil because they are structurally more stable. Polyunsaturated are more likely to change into trans-fatty acids, the most detrimental fats, when heated. Olive oil is the best choice because it contains 70% of monounsaturated fats whereas canola contains about 50%. Olive oil also contains compounds that stabilise blood sugar and anti-oxidants that help protect against damaging free radicals.

How to Choose a Good Teeth Whitening Solution

January 7th, 2010

Let’s face it: perfectly white teeth can be a great asset. After all, however perfectly shaped your teeth may be, and however perfectly aligned your teeth may be, if they are not brilliant white, you are likely to find yourself wondering as to whether your smile is ‘perfect enough.’ And as well know, a ‘perfect smile’ opens many doors these days, even at a subconscious level (if you don’t believe in living a life of patronage – where you smile to have doors open for you!) In short, having a perfect smile is a good thing – and having perfectly white teeth is the first step towards getting that perfect smile.

Now as many of us have already observed, having perfectly white teeth is something that calls for some application of effort. The truth of the matter is that left to ‘their own devices’ the natural tendency of teeth is to get colored. Even the most naturally white teeth tend to turn dark, if nothing proactive is done about them. And of course if you are born with colored teeth (or more accurately, if you developed colored teeth in your early childhood due to chemical influences you encountered), then you would have to make a lot of effort if you were ever to attain that ‘perfect smile.’

Ultimately, if you desire to have brilliant teeth, choice of a tooth whitening solution is something you are likely to find yourself grappling with soon or later.

Your choice of a tooth whitening solution is likely to be influenced by a number of factors.

The first factor that is likely to come into consideration, in your choice of a tooth whitening solution is as to just how bad the tooth staining in your case is. If you have what are reasonably white teeth, and all you are looking for is something to make them ‘perfect,’ then a mild tooth whitening bleach is all you may really need. This is the sort of bleach that you use at home. But in some cases, even the so-called teeth-whitening toothpastes, which are made with granules in them may be just as good in your case. Of course, if your tooth is very badly stained, such solutions won’t work for you. You need something more potent: like say the high concentration bleaches that are only used in dentist clinics, or an even more radical solution, like an expertly crafted veneer to mask the tooth coloring.

The second consideration, in choosing a tooth whitening solution, is as to how much money you have for the project. This is because some teeth whitening solutions, while highly effective, are also considerably costly. So though a veneer may be the ideal solution for the situation you are facing, it could simply be out of your reach, financially.

The third consideration in choosing a tooth whitening solution, is as to just how far you are willing to go in pursuit of teeth whitening. Worth noting is that some of these teeth whitening solutions come with potential for inducing considerable side effects: and it is up to you to make up your mind as to just how much you are willing to take in the pursuit of that ‘perfect smile.’

Top 5 Healthy Weight Loss Foods And Why They Work So Good

December 31st, 2009

Need to shed some weight super fast?

There are five healthy weight loss foods I’ve found to be wickedly effective.

In this article I will share them with you and exactly why they work so good.

Before I do please note…

This is NOT some silly little random list. These five fat burning foods are PROVEN pound shredders. Elite foods that have been found to greatly enhance the rate you lose weight!

Bottom line…

Consume just a few of them each day and odds are you will quickly feel the results.

But if you have the guts to consume all five of them each day… I’d wager a bet that you’d be smilin in front of the mirror in just 7 days!

So sit up and get on the edge of your seat, cause here they are…

1. Whey Protein.

Study after study confirms that protein is potent fat burning fuel.

Primary reason is because it greatly aids muscle development. And muscle burns fat!

The amazing thing about whey is that it has been found to be among the fastest absorbing proteins on the planet.

This means that if you drink a whey protein shake immediately after your workout… it will be absorbed by your body within a matter of just a few minutes.

2. Spicy food.

I realize this is a bit general, so allow me to give you a few examples: jalapeno peppers, habanero peppers and the like.

These fat burning foods raise your metabolism. They make it burn HOTTER! And when your metabolism burns hotter it tends to burn far more fat.

I try to consume at least one very spicy meal per day.

So far the results have been out of this world!

3. Lean beef.

Hey, this article is NOT written to please your doctor.

Truth is, when it comes to burning fat, few things can compete with lean red meat.

When consumed… it forces your metabolism to work over-time in order to digest. This of course greatly enhances the amount of fat you burn.

Secondly, red meat is loaded with protein… which as we discussed, is potent fat burning fuel.

Now I do not recommend consuming red meat in abundance for obvious health reasons.

But I do consume lean red meat at least once per day and my body is virtually void of all stomach fat!

4. Spinach.

Now there could certainly be other green leafy vegetables included here.

But I’ve found spinach to work wonders for your midsection.

It is loaded with calcium and hoards of other nutrients that super-charge your body so it can quickly eliminate fat.

5. Apples.

Back when I was 30lbs over weight I began my quest for the best healthy weight loss foods.

If there is any one thing that I would NOT give up… it would be my habit of eating one apply as soon as I wake up each morning.

Apples are loaded with a beautiful compliment of nutrients and are a PROVEN fat burning weapon.

So that was the list of the top 5 healthy weight loss foods.

Please NOTE…

I make zero guarantees as to how well they will work for you. And I encourage you to consult a specialist before eating them.

Now that I’ve said that, allow me to add one more thing…

I have found those who’ve made it a habit to consume these foods daily lose weight far faster and easier than all others.

Why Practicing Yoga is Good for the Mind, Body and Soul?

December 25th, 2009

Keeping fit and healthy is the aim of all human beings. If you want to live and enjoy the life you have been blessed with then ensuring you are in good health is very essential. Good health comes with taking care of yourself be it your body, mind or soul. Taking care of all three involves eating right, being involved in the right amount of physical activity, thinking right and being happy. When it comes to the aspect of physical exertion and exercising, Yoga comes into the picture.

Yoga is an ancient form of staying fit by performing a few asanas or moves which involve stretching, concentrating and breathing in the right manner at the same time. Yoga was first practiced by saints in ancient India and today it has emerged as one of the top methods of staying fit and healthy and also a means to lose and manage weight. Yoga is a series of movements which is done with a holistic mindset, a clear heart and relaxed breathing. The same importance is given to breathing in the correct manner as is given to performing the stretches the right way.

Yoga looks at self development with discipline, confidence and an earnest effort. Yoga is considered good for your body because the kinds of movements it involves are for the benefit and limberness of each and every part of the body. Yoga is considered good for the mind because it involves meditation. An integral part of yoga involves medication and some experts say you cannot do yoga correctly if you do not tune your mind to meditate. Meditation is a state of mind which is completely relaxed.

You keep your mind focused on your breathing, on good and happy thoughts which build confidence and you stay clear from your day to day problems and other negative issues. The mind becomes relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated after a session of deep meditation.

Yoga is an art which makes you connect with your Creator, the one supreme force or power which created you, sustains you and nourishes you. When you connect with your Creator through meditation and expressing thanks, your soul is nourished and refreshed. The soul is that invincible part of your being which although has no physical form yet its nourishment and development is considered essential for the well being of the entire being.

Yoga has many health benefits. It develops the immune system and provides for better blood circulation in the body. It provides control over anxiety, stress and also depression. It helps in weight loss and weight control. Yoga helps in detoxifying the body and also helps to cure many ailments such as arthritis, heart disease, chronic fatigue, back and joint pain. Yoga reduces tension and stress, helps in concentrating better and also better creative thinking. Yoga enhances flexibility and aids proper balance.

With so many health benefits of yoga for the betterment of the mind, body and soul, practicing yoga is only for the well being of your entire persona.

Good Diets That Really Work To Help You Lose Weight

December 25th, 2009

There are hundreds of different diets out there, so it is important to be able to find the good diets that work so that you don’t waste time over those that don’t. It is important to realize right from the start what your aim is. Presumably you are wanting to lose body fat so that not only do you look better, but you will feel better, and more importantly your health will be better.

To make all this work for you, you need a diet that not only reduces the number of calories you eat each and every day, but one that has all the required nutrients that your body needs to keep it healthy, or get it healthy if your diet recently has been rather doubtful! The calorie reduction diets work because they limit the quantity of food that you eat each day, but these diets may not have the correct number of calories for your particular lifestyle. As everyone has different activity levels, and different metabolisms, what will work well for one person will not necessarily lead to a weight loss in another. This means that you have to discover how many calories you eat in a typical day now, and then reduce it if you want to lose weight, but see you doctor first before starting any diet plan, or before exercising.

In all probability, you already know which foods you should be eating, and what you should not be diving into. Fruits and vegetables are good for you, and you should have the recommended amounts each day. Reducing weight doesn’t mean eliminating any of the food groups, you still need carbohydrates, proteins and fats, of the right type each and every day for a healthy body. You probably do not need to eat as much protein as you have been doing, and it should be low fat protein, with fish 2 – 4 times a week, if you can tolerate it. Herring, mackerel and salmon are good fish to eat, as they contain the kind of omega 3s that your body needs. Fat from animals, like butter, or lard should be reduced, as well as the fat from meat which is best removed before cooking. if possible.

It is not good to be hungry all the time, even though you do have to reduce what you eat, as that hunger will have you back to your old ways of eating in no time at all. For example, if you are using the 1500 calorie diet, and you are spending all day hungry, and thinking about food, then you will not be able to continue this for long before you cave in, and toss that diet away.

However, maybe you should consider how and when you eat. Think about eating 5 or 6 times a day, instead of just 3, so that you spread your food intake more evenly over the whole time you are awake. You obviously won’t eat as much at each meal, otherwise you will gain weight, not lose weight, but by eating smaller portions, but more frequently, it actually helps you to lose weight, because your blood sugar levels will not vary as dramatically as when you eat less often. Also, your stomach will be able to digest and process the smaller meals more easily and more efficiently, so that the food will provide you with energy more easily too. Since your blood sugar will not be spiking as much, because you’ll be eating the healthier carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables, rather than refined sugars and flour products, you will not feel as hungry. This means that provided you have set your diet at a suitable number of calories for you, then you will start to lose weight and that body fat.

Now of course, exercise is important – did you really think we would talk about a diet and not mention exercise? – whether we are on a calorie restricted diet, or not. To maintain good health, your body needs to exercise regularly so that it’s muscles, tendons and bones are kept in good condition. Muscle use also burns more calories, so it will help you with your goal to lose those pounds. A good brisk walk 4 or 5 times a week will help you to get fitter, and of course there are numerous exercises that you can perform either at home or in a gym, with or without specialized exercise equipment. For some people, having equipment at home that they can use at any time is a good idea, but for others, it can be an expense that leads to a great deal of guilt when that expensive equipment gets pushed in a corner unused.

Too much stress is a bad thing to have in your life, as it can easily lead to bad eating decisions. On the other hand, exercising can help you reduce your stress level, and so too can sleep. Right now we are a society that packs way too much into one day, and the result is that we do not have enough rest or sleep. This in its turn leads to more stress as things do not go as well as expected due to exhaustion, and comfort food may be used to try to overcome the stress. If you sleep more, you will be awake less, and you will have less time to eat, another bonus to help you lose weight.

There are various other diets around, like the juice diet, or juice fasting, as well as the reduced calorie diets, but whichever diet you choose use make sure that you are getting all the vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to be healthy. Diet analysis on the foods that you eat can tell you whether or not your body is getting all the nutrients that it needs for a healthy body.

Steve Jackson continues to enlighten people about a variety of different topics, this time about good diets that work well. To be able to reduce the number of options at the touch of a button, or mouse, will get you on the road to a healthier diet, and a slimmer you in no time at all, by going to look at

Are Meal Replacements A Good Idea For Weight Loss? Make Up Your Own Mind

November 23rd, 2009

Think about the number one reasons why people are overweight nowadays. Overweight people fall into one of two different categories.

Either they have an unhealthy lifestyle – working long hours, eating out all the time, not getting enough exercise – or they simply eat too much, often in a compulsive way.

This type of eating – eating when one isn’t hungry, for example, or eating for emotional reasons rather than physical hunger – is really a type of addiction. It should be understood as an addiction, and it often is.

For example, the group Overeaters Anonymous functions on many of the same principles as AA or other twelve step programs. Excessive eating is treated like an addiction because that’s exactly what it is.

Men, Get Serious And Lose Weight With The Acai Berry Detox, Get Your FREE TRIAL NOW!

But if that’s the case, it’s easy to see why this addiction might be harder to treat than some others. The way to deal with an addiction is to stay away from the behaviour that’s out of control – alcoholics can’t touch alcohol, for example. The idea is to not do it at all until the addiction becomes a thing of the past – in fact, for many addicts, they can never indulge in their addictive behavior again, not even once.

With food addiction, though, that’s obviously impossible. People have to eat – there’s no getting away from it. That’s why food addiction, though it’s an addiction to a non-lethal substance, may be the hardest of all to deal with. And that’s also why companies such as Slim-fast, who produce and market meal replacements for people to use while dieting to lose weight, actually do succeed in helping some people.

The idea behind meal replacements is that you don’t really eat at all for a good part of the day – instead, you have a special shake or other product that gives you all the nutrients you need, and stops you from feeling hungry. This works in two ways: first, it controls the calories you take in, because the meal replacements are quite low calorie. Second, it breaks the cycle of addictive behavior because you’re not really eating. You can get away from the behavior much as an alcoholic can (and must) get away from alcohol, and that gives you a better chance of breaking the addictive process.

Though most meal replacement plans do recommend that you eat one ‘normal’ meal per day, some people who are serious about losing weight don’t do even that. That’s precisely how Oprah Winfrey once lost a lot of weight – about fifty pounds. She said that she found it easier not to eat at all (subsisting on meal replacement shakes and bars) than to control her eating. When you know that you won’t be eating ‘real food’ at all for a while, it takes the guesswork out of it. Everything becomes very straightforward, and it’s a fact that many people have lost weight using this method of weight loss.

There are drawbacks, though. For one thing, while a weight loss program is supposed to teach you about how to eat for the rest of your life – to establish healthy habits, in other words – using meal replacements clearly doesn’t do so. Once you go back to eating real food, you might find that your problems with controlling your food intake are still there. Though you will have lost weight, you are more likely to gain it back if you haven’t learned healthy eating habits.

Also, there’s a danger that some people will keep on using the meal replacements for extended periods of time, just because it’s easier and more convenient. Thought they re designed to give you a minimum level of calories and nutrition, meal replacement bars cannot substitute for real food over an extended period.

However, if you know or suspect that your problem with food resembles an addiction or compulsion, it may be worth your while to think about using meal replacements for a while in order to lose some weight. Try to make the time you spend using them as productive as possible, though. Really come to terms with your past behaviour, and learn what it feels like to be full but not stuffed. Figuring out the answer to these and other aspects of healthy eating will help make your weight loss permanent.

3 Ways a Good Weight Loss Supplement Can Help You

November 22nd, 2009

In the traditional way of thinking, a weight loss supplement was supposed to play a ’supplementary’ role to diet and exercise in the weight-loss endeavor. A person who was looking to lose weight was usually advised to enlist the help of a supplement for loss of weight, of course in addition to a diet that was conducive to their weight-loss goal, and, ideally, a good exercise regime. The combination of diet, exercise and weight loss supplement was in most cases guaranteed to deliver weight-loss.

Then came the age of instant gratification, and that approach to weight loss suddenly became unfashionable. People began to ask, in the spirit of instant gratification and avoidance of effort, whether it wouldn’t somehow be possible to lose weight with the help of the supplement for loss of weight alone. This was to be expected, seeing that besides the supplement for loss of weight, the other weight loss aids (diet and exercise) were quite ‘unpleasant:’ calling as they did, for considerable exertion on the part of the person looking to lose weight.

All this led to a situation where people started looking to lose weight with the aid of weight loss supplements only. For the most part, they ended up being unsuccessful. And this led to frustration, which had the long term effect of making people to start questioning the efficacy of the weight loss supplement. Indeed, some went on to declare that weight loss supplements don’t work.

The truth of the matter, however, is that a good weight-loss supplement, properly used, can help you in three ways in your endeavor to lose weight. To be sure, it may be a tall order to lose weight with the help of weight-loss supplements exclusively. Indeed, many tend to come with a disclaimer to exactly this effect: which goes something like ‘this supplements works best when used alongside diet and exercise.’ Still, there are the three ways in which a good weight loss supplement can help you in your endeavor to lose weight.

1) The first way through which the weight-loss supplement can help you in your endeavor to lose weight is making the weight loss faster. They call in expediting the process, and the effect, using the right way loss supplement can be rather considerable.

2) The second way through which the weight-loss supplement can help you in endeavor to lose weight is by making the weight loss less demanding in terms of efforts. This is where you may still have to make dietary modifications and exercise if you are to lose weight, but where a good weight-loss supplement increases the ‘returns’ you get for your investments into the weight loss endeavor.

3) The third way through which a good supplement for loss of weight can help you in your weight-loss endeavor is by keeping you motivated on the process. Many people who decide to ‘live with’ their weight problems tend to be people who attempted to lose weight and failed. A good weight loss supplement, by expediting your weight-loss and ‘increasing the returns’ on your investments in that endeavor gives you at least some ‘initial results’ to celebrate, and keep you motivated to continue on your weight loss effort. Attempting to go about trying to lose weight without a weight-loss supplement could mean that it may be months before you start seeing any results out of your effort, by which time you could have given up on the whole venture.
