On 11/21/09, I participated in the Living History Farms Run in Urbandale, Iowa. It’s a 7-mile, extreme cross-country event with 7500 participants from all over the US. We ran through cornfields and woods, crossed a (very cold) stream 8 times, crawled up mud banks, climbed near-vertical hills, scrambled over haystacks, and enjoyed the camaraderie of a vast array of like-minded crazies. I ran this with my bud, Don Foltz and two of his relatives, Steve Reicks and Susie Busta. The only time we split up was when we lost Steve during a bio-break. Just over a year ago, I began a 9 week walk/run program, designed to progress from a non-runner to a runner who could run continuously for 30 minutes. I use the Couch to 5K (C25K) running program available from the cool running website.
