Over the years I have been fortunate to not have to worry too much about my weight. I played many sports and kept me in good health. At age 40, I was still actively involved in squash, tennis and golf, although the last 2 are not so hard to squash. At age 41, I gave up competitive squash, and in the next 6 months to put more than 5 kilograms (11 pounds). In my 50 years of age, was about 84 kg (185 pounds), a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, depressed, and I wondered if my life was going. At only 170cm (5’8 “), my BMI was too
high. I had to find a way to lose weight.

After obtaining the advice of doctors about diabetes, I started trying to do things well and lose weight. I ate a diet of cardboard and grass, or if you want, biscuits and salad. I tried to go hungry, eat some protein, all the usual vagaries, and missed a bit. Christmas came and I was back at the higher weight and depression again. After trying all sorts of schemes, it would always be a failure. I began to understand that losing weight is not an easy thing to do. I read more, how many people embark on diets, and how not to lose weight, or just pile the weight back after completion of the scheme. I was one of them.

It became clear that the only way I was going to be successful was to change my thinking. I began to see that there was no miracle diet. I had to cut calories or burn more calories through work or exercise. I

started reading everything I could on the subject, and the Internet is a wonderful tool. A good resource is http://www.o-weightloss.com where more than 1,400 pages of information. There are also plenty of power of information there. I’ve become something of an expert, especially as I began to lose more weight. I found the service to cut saturated fat, and reduce (not) for dessert, and eat smaller meals, I continued to lose weight. I have reduced the beer and drank all the wine. In essence, continued to enjoy all the food I had
known before, but with the slogan, everything in moderation.

A simple exercise regime has started, I went for only 40 minutes a day 4 days a week. I play golf at least once a week, and during the summer months, tennis once a week. This is not the body to break things.

The reality is that diabetes or severe obesity, can sleep all day and night in a cemetery if not combat their weight problems.

Now at age 55, I’m up to 75 kg (165 pounds), the last blood test showed that there was a diabetic and I feel better about myself. Although I know that diabetes can not be cured, I firmly believe that can be controlled by controlling their weight, and especially its fat percentage.

I also strongly believe that information is king and can never have too much information. Sites like http://www.o-weightloss.com can be very useful. Rec obesity
